Our Story

Relocating to Managua, Nicaragua in early 2015 proved a pivotal point in my life.   Bringing with me 15 years of experience in the art world, a strong desire to explore my maternal heritage, and an adventurer’s spirit, I set out to discover artistic talents in the small pueblos outside of the capital city. Ultimately, the discovery of ceramic vessels of extreme high quality, hidden in a small town only an hour from Managua, seeded the idea of Studio De Hache. The genesis and evolution of this project has resulted in a creatively rewarding endeavor in a culturally rich Central American paradise.

Important years were spent in Nicaragua.  I met and partnered with my brilliant/future wife. I discovered extraordinary artistic talents deserving of a platform. I started a creative project and felt happy in the life being built there.   Unfortunately, an eruption of civil unrest followed by unchecked political persecution earlier this year, continuing to this day, has made it a paradise no more.

Refocusing bases to Miami Beach, Florida, in the Summer of 2018, Studio De Hache launched online while searching for our new permanent safe haven where we may continue to expand.  Seeking more artisan masters in regionally distinct clay working communities has led us far and wide, from Nicaragua to Spain to Pennsylvania.  Their deep roots in Pottery are a constant source for our education and inspiration.  Consequently, new artisan and community relationships are being developed as we travel.

Of course, we continue to always support our original nicaraguan artists and their local communities, especially in these difficult times.  Their work merits the platform and, being our original collaborators, they will always have a special place in our artistic family tree.

That tree now grows and our Studio's view has become more international in scope.  A current market trend of renewed interest in the ceramic arts broadens our platform to include international art fairs, studio visits, workshops, seminars and gallery exhibitions.  We hope you enjoy our contributions to this ceramics renaissance as much as we've appreciated making and sharing them with you.
